In the midst of my tech frenzy, decking out our home with UniFi’s sparkliest new network gadgets, I committed the unthinkable — I forgot about the telephony! This oversight didn’t ruffle my feathers much since my cellphone is practically glued to my ear. But my wife? That’s a different story. She’s retro, prefers the trusty old land-line to keep up with her rolodex of contacts.
The plot thickens when she discovers that our reliable AVM FritzBox has been rehomed to our daughter’s place. Suddenly, I’m on a mission – Operation Bring Back the Dial Tone.
In my defense, amidst choosing cutting-edge network devices, the humble telephone just slipped my mind. It’s not my finest hour, considering that our former AVM FritzBox came with a built-in DECT router and got along famously with our Deutsche Telekom DSL connection. Back then, we had 2 FRITZ!Fon C6 handsets connected, and they were living the dream, wirelessly.
The glamorous UniFi Dream Machine SE, although brimming with features including VoIP, sadly doesn’t strut a DECT solution, and it’s available only in VIP countries (ours not making the cut). The internet whispers about future expansions and DIY SIP-provider setups, but as of now, it’s a no-show on the DECT front.
What’s a tech-obsessed husband to do? After a brief mourning period for the simplicity of plug-and-play, I hit the search engines hard and alas, found a lifeline — the GIGASET Go-Box 100. This nifty little DECT router promises to connect up to six handsets and prides itself on an installation so easy, even a technologically challenged pet could probably manage it. Let the communications resume!
The sweet spot price of 50 euros isn’t too shabby, and the cherry on top? I can keep using my 2 Fritz!FonC6 handsets. So in no time flat, I restored peace and telecom joy in our little domestic kingdom. Reach out if you have any questions.
