So, Microsoft just announced they’re pulling the plug on Viva Topics. For most folks that might not be a big deal, but for me, it hits a bit harder.
I’m all about content and knowledge management, so Viva Topics was my go-to for organizing content and connecting the dots with subject matter experts on various topics. After hearing the news, I tried wrapping my head around the why. I get that there’s a huge push towards AI and CoPilot, and that totally makes sense. But when it comes to explaining the plan for managing “curated” and “authoritative” content moving forward? The details were kinda sketchy, or “vague” might be the better word here.
Just went through the announcement here and saw the link to the new guidance on Managing Knowledge. From what I gather, it looks like AI and CoPilot are gonna take over handling all our knowledge management headaches in the future. They didn’t spill many beans on exactly how this will unfold, but I’m betting we’ll probably see some cool new features in CoPilot, or maybe even some dedicated plugins specific to it. Until those goodies arrive, we’re stuck with the current tools, right?
I’m currently poking around for ways to make dealing with metadata, document tags, and maybe labeling a bit less of a chore. Also, I’m planning to dive into everything SharePoint Premium (yep, the artist formerly known as Syntex) and Azure Document AI have to offer in the next few weeks. If I stumble upon anything promising, you bet I’ll be sharing it.
So if you are affected by the dead of Viva Topics – what’s your plan B ? Looking forward to learn and to discuss about it.
Over & out , Heino
