Welcome Back to the Bedcave Chronicles!
Step right up as we dust off the cobwebs and slap some sparkle onto the bedcave! Yes, folks, the bedcave has undergone a minor monumental facelift complete with glossy paint, squeaky-clean windows, and a backend so shiny you could eat your breakfast off it (though I don’t recommend it). Amidst the chaos of juggling life and multiple projects, home improvements have been crying out for love like a melodramatic soap opera. Fear not, for the bedcave is now not only a snazzy lair but also a treasure trove of my DIY escapades.
Want a sneak peek into my toolbox? Keep your eyes peeled right here, where I’ll spill the beans about all my hair-raising home adventures. Kicking things off, we mourn the epic demise of my trusty old HP Enterprise Switch, which decided to go to the great tech heaven in the sky. This led to the great network quest of 202X—finding a worthy successor.
Enter stage left: Cisco and Ubiquiti. After much chin-scratching and endless spec sheets, I joined hands (metaphorically) with Ubiquiti. Why, you ask? I needed something that didn’t require a PhD to operate but was still brainy enough to handle my mad science networking needs. Priority numero uno? Keeping my binge-watching sessions and secret ninja business online 24/7. We’re talking failover for uninterrupted internet, VIP Wi-Fi treatment indoors and outdoors, and networking zones for everything from spy gadgets (IoT) to a fortress for guests (Guest WiFi).
Plus, out with the old Wi-Fi cams, and in with the new, slick PoE cameras. Because, let’s be honest, I’ve watched enough detective shows to know Wi-Fi cameras are always the first to go when the plot thickens.
Stay tuned for more gossip from the bedcave—next time, we dish all the dirt on how I wrangled my Ubiquiti setup. Trust me, it’s better than a season finale cliffhanger!
In today’s interconnected world, a robust and reliable Wi-Fi network is essential for both work and leisure.

The second adventure on my geeky quest was a revamp of my home automation. After scouring through an electronic labyrinth, “Home Assistant” emerged as the king of my digital castle. So, diving deeper into the rabbit hole, I investigated every conceivable Home Assistant gateway known to humankind.
Eventually, I assembled a mighty home server, a technological beast that snugly fits into my 19″ rack—companions to this digital fortress include all the networking gizmos and a robust uninterruptible power supply promising up to 2 hours of techno-immortality during apocalyptic power outages. As for my backup internet, initially, my NETGEAR NightHawk M5 WiFi 6 Mobile Router played the hero. But alas, its data plan was thinner than a budget diet plan. Enter STARLINK next week—with its all-you-can-eat buffet of data!
Thus, in even the bleakest scenarios where lights flicker and perish, I shall remain king of my digital domain, with my surveillance eyes wide open.
- Run my personal document management solution
- Run multiple virtual machines for testing and development
- Host my retired PLEX media server
I’ll be diving deep into the geeky guts of our server soon, spilling the beans on all its tech-tastic secrets in upcoming blog posts. We’ll kick things off by untangling the web of our network setup—trust me, it’s more gripping than a spy novel! After that, we’ll sneak a peek at the server, the bustling metropolis of applications and VM’s humming away.
But wait, there’s more! I’ll also share the highs and lows of my home automation adventures—think of it as a sitcom where I’m both the hero and the occasional clumsy villain. Plus, you’ll still get your fix of insights on Microsoft’s cloud and AI shenanigans.
Got a tech topic you’re itching to hear more about? Shoot me a message! If it’s up my alley, I’ll happily jump on it.
Can’t wait to revive the “bedcave” and get our tech talk on!
